Holiday Greetings and year end summary

December 2015

May this post find you in good health and fine spirits. I hope you have happy holidays.

This year marked another season in Yellowstone.  Good people to work with, great   location, lots of photo ops, and a new member of the photo safari team who fit right in.  I Other travels this year were all in the west; several trips to Yosemite from my lot in Coarsegold, wildlife refuges in California’s central valley, a short trip to Colorado Springs for a work related event for Chris, his birthday weekend at Deetjen’s Big Sur resort on the coast of California, and visits with many friends in California.  My cousin Dick Dilley and his wife Jan were out from Indiana and we spent a day exploring Yosemite followed by a weekend with their son and family at a ranch in San Benito County. I enjoyed time in Coarsegold, getting to know my neighbors and volunteering for chores around the co-op park.

On the way to Yellowstone I stopped at Craters of the Moon National Monument, which I recommend to you all.   At the end of the season, I spent a week in Grand Teton National Park, then worked my way slowly south, on secondary roads as much as possible.  I stayed in Rifle, Co where my great grandparents were the first settlers.  Chris joined me for 9 days in Moab, UT exploring Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dead Horse State Park, and La Sal Mountains.  After putting him back on the plane, I headed for more adventures in Petrified Forest National Park, Canyon de Chelly, a bit of Route 66 near Holbrook, AZ, Pie Town in New Mexico, Faywood Hot Springs, Silver City and Gila Cliff Dwellings.   I visited friends in Tucson and Ajo, AZ, a weekend trip, by plane to Texas to celebrate and photograph the marriage of Rebecca and David, Chris’ nephew.    More of the adventures and photos are on the blog; just click on “Older Posts” at the bottom the page.
The motorhome has a new look.  I replaced the carpet with laminate.  Now I sit in an RV lot in Arizona waiting, a full week now, for parts to replace a faulty power steering pump.

2016 marks the 100th anniversary of our National Park Service, although many parks predate the service.  It means we will probably have even bigger crowds, but it is a time to be thankful that we have this incredible resource.  I am a regular visitor to National Parks, Monuments, and Seashores.  Each is special for its own reasons and each has been well worth the visit.

This is the time of year I get caught up with many old friends, so I look forward to your news, whether by Internet or paper mail.
